How to Take Care of Your Feet In Pregnancy

Taking care of your feet in pregnancy is extremely important. Pregnancy can put a lot of pressure on your feet because they have to bear the burden of your weight and of the new life that you are supporting. Obstetrics, the branch of medicine concerned with pregnancy, emphasizes that proper foot care should be a priority. If you're not sure exactly how to take care of your feet during pregnancy, you can use the following tips to help you.

Wear Orthotics

Wearing Orthotics during pregnancy is usually a good move. Orthotics provide a way to evenly distribute the pressure on your feet. This extra support makes it a lot easier for you to stand comfortably in your shoes.

This does not mean that you shouldn't take breaks from standing as often as you can. However, because your weight is evenly distributed while wearing orthotics you are likely to feel less pain in your feet and experience less swelling.

During pregnancy, you should always make sure that you are wearing low heel shoes because this will help to ensure that weight is distributed evenly all over your feet.

Massage Your Feet

A good way to ensure that your feet get the support that they need is to massage them regularly during pregnancy. You can buy a foot bath to soak your foot in before you massage your feet.

Soaking your feet in a foot bath and then getting a massage will help to reduce swelling and aching in your feet. If massaging your feet is difficult for you because of your growing belly, you may have to ask someone to massage your feet for you.

Try Walking More

Light exercises such as walking during pregnancy are recommended. Walking regularly makes it a lot easier to improve blood circulation to your feet. Increasing blood circulation will prevent your feet from swelling as much when you go walking. You should gauge your body's response, try not to overdo it. Always consult your doctor before you do any form of exercise during pregnancy.

Taking care of your feet during pregnancy is a must. During pregnancy, feet come under a lot of pressure, and because of this, they can start swelling and hurting very quickly throughout the day. The best thing you can do is to try to improve circulation to your feet as much as possible, wear comfortable shoes and massage your feet to decrease the chance of pain or swelling.
